Before you fly
- Join the waitlist. Tell us what you're interested in, and you'll hear when booking opens.
- Think about your goals. Are you curious, aiming for a private pilot certificate, or planning a career? It helps shape the first conversation.
- Check the weather plan. South Florida weather can change quickly, so flights are sometimes rescheduled for safety.
If you plan to train toward a pilot certificate, consider getting your FAA medical certificate before you invest much time or money in training. In most cases you'll need it before you can fly solo, and if anything in your health history needs extra FAA review, it's better to find out early. Medical exams are done by an FAA-designated Aviation Medical Examiner (AME).
You don't need a medical for a discovery flight with an instructor.
What to bring
- A photo ID
- Comfortable clothing, closed-toe shoes, sunglasses, and water
- A notebook and pen
- A headset if you have one (ask in advance whether one is provided)
- Your questions
On the day
- Briefing. A short talk about the plan for the flight, the controls, and safety on the ground and in the air.
- Preflight. A walk-around inspection of the airplane together, so you see what pilots check before every flight.
- The flight. Taxi, takeoff, and time in the air. Depending on the plan and conditions, you may try some basic maneuvers with guidance.
- Debrief. A look back at the flight and a chance to ask about training, scheduling, and next steps.
After the flight
- If the flight was given as instruction, ask whether it can be logged in a pilot logbook.
- Talk through which path fits you: private pilot training, or more discovery flights first.
- Read up on what drives the cost of training so there are no surprises.
General information only. FAA requirements are set out in 14 CFR Part 61 and the Airman Certification Standards, and they can change. Specific requirements will be confirmed with you directly before any training begins.
